Ypeople has over 200 staff and volunteers and supports hundreds of people every day in our homelessness, young people’s wellbeing and out of school care services.

We are recruiting for a Youth Counsellor who shares our values to provide support within our Y-Talk service based in Orkney. Our Y-Talk service provides support to young people up to the age of 25 in areas such as substance misuse, stress, depression, anxiety, self-harm, and bullying. This role is on a fixed-term basis until 31 December 2020 with possibility of extension until 31 March 2020.

How you will make a difference:

  • Actively practicing person centred planning and unconditional positive regard.
  • Taking a Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE) approach.
  • Develop positive, respectful and compassionate relationships with clients, focussing on strengths and aspirations as individuals.
  • Developing life skills with service users including how to maximise income, involvement in meaningful activities, and other skills that aid to independence.
  • Advocating on the service users behalf.
  • Compiling and reviewing service user risk assessments
  • Having detailed knowledge of other relevant services and signposting or referring service users when required.

What you will bring:

  • Personal values aligned with Ypeople’s core values.
  • Accredited Diploma or equivalent in counselling.
  • Be BACP accredited or working towards.
  • Experience of counselling young people with a range of issues within a statutory or voluntary organisation.
  • Knowledge of various mental and emotional well being issues.
