We are so grateful for the support, kindness, and encouragement we received during this challenging year from our friends, volunteers, and neighbours. From regular food deliveries throughout lockdown to handmade PPE, and even donations of phones and tablets to make sure no person was left isolated at this tough time.
Christmas has been no different and the kindness of our partners, supporters, and friends has helped keep our spirits up and our hearts full. There’s no better way to see out a tough year than by saying thank you to everyone who’s made these times a little easier.
In the Highlands
Moray Firth Radio changed the Christmases of so many families and young people in Highland with their incredible generosity from the Cash for Kids appeal. Our team supports young people who have experienced care, and also many families and people at risk of homelessness. The Cash for Kids Christmas gift donations gave something special to families and young people who may have gone without this year.
Tracey from our Highland Reach Out team said
“I felt like Santa getting to deliver so many presents. Our families are blown away, one parent told me it has saved them from taking out a crisis loan. It’s more than just presents it’s the peace of mind knowing your kids won’t go without.”
Over in Glasgow
True to the spirit of their school motto Help Others, St Rochs Secondary school pupils rallied together to offer gifts to other children who may not have as much this year. They brought in everything from dolls to chemistry sets, over 30 gifts in total. Through the Glasgow Key Fund and our South Lanarkshire Rent Deposit services, these gifts went out to the families we are supporting in temporary accommodation. You have made a real difference this year – thank you St Rochs!
Our intandem team, who provide mentoring support for young people across Glasgow, have had a very merry time playing secret Santa. Thanks to BDP Architects, and Urban Fox all our mentees and their families were gifted presents. And thanks to Pudle Two Shoes for providing lovely wellbeing boxes of bath bombs and festive candles.
One young person said: “I just wanted to say thank you to the person that donated the bike and the Xbox. I have been playing all the old games. It has given me lots of memories and it is much appreciated. Thank you”
Our friends at Yellowcom took a personal approach to their giving this year and asked our mentoring team what their families were in need of this Christmas. This gave Yellowcom the chance to tailor their gift to one single-parent family who have had an especially tough year:
Mum’s health has deteriorated significantly this year, and with 3 children under 12 and caring for her one-year-old grandchild, time, money, and space has been tight for this family. Yellowcom provided them with a new sofa bed and bedding giving them the gift of space and a good night’s rest which were badly needed. The mum is over the moon, this gift will be lifechanging.
And in South Lanarkshire
Yellowcom also provided a Christmas dinner to a young family, and gifts to everyone spending the holiday in Pathways supported accommodation for those affected by homelessness. Pathways Reach Out also had great support from friends in the local community. They rallied together to collect and drop off gifts for people affected by homelessness. It’s easy to see how much fun Joe from our team is having as one of Santa’s elves.
Many of our generous Christmas gifters are friends and partners who give to those we support every year and it’s always appreciated, but this year more than ever. Your kindness has helped to keep our spirits up and our hearts full. There’s no better way to see out a tough year than by saying thank you to everyone who’s made these times a little easier.
Special Christmas thank you to all our supporters and partners:
